Grime and gum are to be cleared off the city center’s dirty pavements several times a week as part of a new cleaning contract.
Leicester City Council has signed a £300,000, three-year deal with an industrial cleaning company to scour the streets.
While the streets are swept daily, it is the first time regular deep cleaning has been scheduled.
Previously, clean-ups have been held infrequently or cleaners have been called out to deal with specific mess.
Staff from Ramora Industrial Cleaning will use steam pressure washers.
They will operate from Sunday to Thursday each week, working through the night to minimise disruption.
